Do you like the cold?

Hello Friends, it was 6:45am and Miss Penny (my little dog who thinks she's a human) wanted to get up for her morning pee. I'm always very happy to oblige as she has been the hardest dog to house train! She is bitza, three bits actually that I'm aware of, shih-tzu x chihuahua x fox terrier. The shih-tzu part of her is very stubborn and unless she wants to do it, nothing and no one will make her. However, she will do anything for a treat (a Penny-Snack) so when she goes a big deal is made and she gets a snack, she thinks she is pretty amazing or maybe she knows she has ME very well trained! πŸ˜€

While she was sniffing around trying to find just the right spot, I looked at the thermometre that I keep outside. Well, the weather man totally got it wrong last night, he said it was going to get down to nine degrees overnight but here it is telling me its five degrees!

What!!!! Yep, five degrees! No wonder Penny slept under my covers (yes she sleeps with me! Yes she is very spoiled!) last night! I've always let my dogs sleep with me except when I used to visit my Nanna in Murwillumbah, my little Sally who was a chihuahua, was NOT allowed in or on beds at all!
Did you know Stampin' Up! have an adorable dog stamp set? Its not a chihuahua sadly but still very cute!

Awesome Foods to Eat When You Are Feeling Sick!

Hi! I hope you are well and you haven't experienced the flu that is around right now in Brisbane, Australia! Here in Australia it's winter and everyone is getting sick. Yesterday it was cold and dreary, something that Queenslanders are not familiar with. Today it's been warmer but rainy. Great weather for colds and the flu to flourish!

I've had my flu shot as I don't have a spleen so the flu shot is a necessity. I can't believe it's been five years since I had the splenectomy. I'm actually due for my booster shots in September this year.

I have to have them every five years, and yes they do hurt. I have to have four shots and when I had them five years ago, my arms hurt for days. Honestly, I don't mind as they guard me against some really nasty bugs like meningococcal.

Here are some foods that are really good for you when you get the flu. The first thing I get is fresh lemons and oranges. I make a mix of lemon, honey, vinegar and hot water. I drink it and go to bed. The oranges are for natural vitamin C. I recommend drinking green tea with lemon, it always helps me when I'm unwell.

What is your go to food when you get sick? I would love you to make a comment and share your thoughts.

Here are some foods that can hinder and help with mucous. These are good to know! I really do need to eat more vegetable when I'm sick. Why is it my body craves salt when I'm sick? Why does my body work against itself! I'm thinking that's why  you need educate yourself about the effects of good food on your body.
Avoid these foods if you want to get rid of mucus!: Fit, Health Food, Elimination Mucus, Nature Remedies, Menu, Healthy Eating, Well, Healthy Food, Healthy Living

Have you had a sore throat this winter? These might help.

Infusion of a different kind!

clear glass pitcher filled with clear liquid selective focus photography
Hi!!! Yesterday started early and was the busiest day I've had in a week since taking time off work. Today I had an eight o'clock appointment at the hospital to have an echo-cardiogram done. It is an ultrasound is to measure the percentage of blood my heart is ejecting. Last time (six months ago) it was fifteen percent, which is severe! Yes I was working full time teaching Year Ones last year and this year with heart failure!!! Two weeks ago a blood test discovered that my iron is very low so they gave me an iron infusion today.
person injecting syringe
Of course nothing goes fast in hospitals but Im glad that I could get the treatment for free. It only took fifteen minutes for the iron to go in via drip then I had to wait half an hour to make sure I had no side effects like not being able to breathe!

When I arrived home I made a hot, refreshing cup of Early Grey (I much prefer this kind of infusion!) and a delicious, salad sandwich!

Have you ever had an iron infusion? Or any infusions of any kind? Do you like needles? I can never watch them put it in to my arm! YUCK!

Until next time!
Happy Crafting!

Who loves colour? What's your favourite?

Me... for sure I do!

Hi Everyone, its Thursday night and today I've been thinking about colour. I'm off work for a little while, hoping to give my heart rest and time to heal. Having Congestive Cardiac Failure is annoying! I get fatigued very easily (but that is a whole other blog post!).

Today I found myself remembering my year one students bringing me pictures that they had drawn. Sometimes, of themselves, or me or their family.  They are always in a hurry to draw and give you the picture so they only draw the outlines.

I would always tell them what a great job they had done but I would tell them that pictures need colour.

Why do pictures need colour?  Well, they don't, it was more to get them to concentrate longer and not rush. To me, colour is everything. I think its the one thing that love about stamping and card making is I get to play with colour.  Below are the Brights inks, paper and markers.
Brights Classic Stampin' Pad Assortment Brights 12" x 12" (30.5 x 30.5 cm) Cardstock Brights Stampin' Write Markers
I do love the Brights, they make me feel energised but there is time for energy but there are times for reflection. Stampin' Up! have colours for that too.

I love how all the colours just work together. If you're not sure about colour combinations, there is a tonne of ideas on Pinterest. Beware though, Pinterest is dangerous! πŸ˜†

Colour signify emotions. It speaks to us and our friends and family when we use it on our cards.

We use red for passion and love, blue is a calming colour. Yellow shows happiness and joy and pink is used for girls, softness and sweetness. Interestingly, before the early 20th century, gender roles were reversed and pink signified boys and girls were blue. Read more HERE, its a very interesting article.

I love Stampin' Up!'s colours!

Not only does Stampin' Up! produce amazing colours they produce amazing stamp sets and dies.

I found Inspiration!

Hi Everyone! I hope you are well and warm in this cold Winter we are experiencing!

People often ask me where I get my motivation from. There are a few places I find my inspiration. My most favourite is being connected. Join groups, go to class and workshops, invite people over for a card and coffee morning or afternoon and getting involved in challenges. Pinterest is great but I have often started looking for cards and ended up at recipes or organising (both are good though!) and not being inspired (for making cards).
Yesterday a video by Connie Stewart inspired me. When I'm really lacking in ideas, I CASE (copy and steal everything - but give credit) other peoples ideas and usually I end up making my own version.
This is what happened yesterday. My own version came about cutting the base cardstock the wrong way but I wanted my card to open the same way Connie's did. Instead of cutting a new lot of cardstock I just went with the flow and turned it on its side.
Having a reason for making a card is always a great way as you are making it for someone special. For this card, my father-in-law's birthday is later in the month.
This is what I came up with.

πŸ’–Would you like to make this card or one like it? Maybe a female version or a child's version? I can teach you to make this card and others.
